Western Homes Thursday, February 12, 2015 31 Sunny Titirangi: The decks open up the already generous living spaces at 12 Deirdre Place, this one extending from the dining room and master bedroom. Stalwart ready for next venture Back in the mid-1950s when Deirdre Place was first opened up for development close to Titirangi village, a local bank manager chose a prime piece of land to build his home. Bank managers being the astute people they are, it was quite likely the pick of the bunch – 3035 square metres of elevated sunny property with a flat building platform and beautiful views of native tree-clad hills. The house was solidly built of weatherboard and tile, with quality interior features like beautiful cornicing and floors. Fast forward to 2015. The home at 12 Deirdre Place has expanded a little to 260 square metres, to accommodate growing families. There are verandas and sprawling decks including one around the inground pool; also a sleepout and spacious garaging, office and storage space. The house is situated up a curving driveway which leads to an impressive portico entrance, beyond which is the double garage/ workshop/laundry. It doesn’t take long to appreciate the potential of the place – it has the ‘bones’ as they say, and is just waiting for someone with vision to update it. The kitchen for example is quite serviceable as is, but has the space to extend out into something spectacular. Christine and Mark have lived here for 12 years, and enjoy playing host to family from England when they visit. ‘‘They find it very exotic,’’ Christine says. ‘‘It’s such a Multi living: Three lovely rooms can be opened out or closed off depending on your needs. sunny site too, and of course we have the village, the beaches and coastal walkways to show off.’’ The children, now grown up and graduated have also relished the lifestyle, especially the independence of the sleepout which provides a fourth bedroom, quiet place to study, and space to have friends around. The house itself has three double bedrooms, the master featuring private living space, an ensuite and access to the main deck. The living/dining areas are in three sections, with sliding doors that can be closed for privacy and warmth or thrown open for a party or on a hot summer’s day. The central lounge has a lovely old fireplace; there’s an office off the dining room, and a family bathroom. There’s potential in the grounds for lovely gardens and shady nooks. ‘‘Although we have neighbours it is so private,’’ says Christine. She and Mark find with the family grown that the place is now more they need. Consequently 12 Deirdre Place goes to auction on March 11 unless sold prior. Open homes are Saturday and Sunday 11.00-11.30am. For more information contact Cameron Hems 021 204 2240 or Karlene Ashworth-Dennis on 021 071 9555 . Quality build: The floors and ceilings definitely have old school building virtues.
